Frequently Asked Questions
How long can I expect to come to therapy?
The answer to this question is different for everyone, based on their individual wants, goals, and needs.
My clients often come to me with one thing in mind and heart, and will choose to continue to work with me through additional items as they arise.
Others may choose to address additional items outside of the therapeutic context.
There isn't necessarily a correct answer, but we can collaborate together to help you make the ultimate choice for yourself.
How often do I need to meet with my therapist?
Therapy is most powerful when it's conducted weekly. This is verified by countless studies and my professional experience as a therapist. Without a doubt, we’ve found that clients who commit to weekly sessions for the duration of treatment make the greatest transformations. Occasionally, it may be appropriate to meet more or less often, depending on your needs.
These sessions are for YOU.
Do you offer video or phone sessions?
Yes! We are a teletherapy practice, meaning we only offer video sessions. At this time, we do not offer in-person services.
I don’t live in Indiana. Can I still see you?
Yes and No. Samantha is currently licensed in the states of Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois. If you are a resident of either of those states, Samantha can see you for telehealth services. If you do not reside in one of those three states, we can still help you find the right therapist for you.
What can I expect from the first session?
The first session is an opportunity for us to meet face-to-face.
At this time, your therapist will provide a comprehensive assessment, which will take into account your personal history, present-day concerns, and what you might be hoping for in the therapeutic process.
If you have specific goals for therapy and/or beyond, you can talk about those, too. Together, you’ll address any concerns or questions you have regarding therapy, and identify a plan to move forward with.
If, for any reason, you and/or your therapist don't believe that working together is the best fit for you, we’ll provide you with specific referrals based on the comprehensive assessment provided.
You do not accept my insurance, does that mean I can’t see you for therapy?
No! You can absolutely still receive therapy services!
We are out-of-network providers with all insurance networks except for Anthem, which means we don’t accept payment from insurance companies directly. Your plan, however, may reimburse you a portion of your financial investment if you have out-of-network coverage.
Here are some questions to ask your insurance provider:
a. What are my routine behavioral health care benefits?
b. Do I need a referral from my primary care doctor?
c. What is my deductible and have I met it?
d. What amount do you cover for out-of-network providers?
e. What credentials must my therapist have for me to receive reimbursement? (My therapist is an LCSW).
For more information about using your out-of-network coverage, see Rates.
What if I can't afford your rate?
Don't let my rate discourage you from contacting me! I've found that more often than not I'm able to come up with an acceptable arrangement with most people.
Even when this isn’t the case, I've been able to refer folks to therapists who may be able to accommodate your financial situation.
